FedRAMP is the US federal program for assessing and authorizing cloud services used by federal agencies. It is a specific assurance route; an ISO 27001 certificate or SOC 2 report does not automatically replace it.

Establish the requirement first

Are you providing a cloud service that handles federal information, or selling to an American customer without that requirement? What service boundary and authorization route are involved? Ask for the actual contractual or agency requirement before promising a status.

Assess readiness against the right scope

FedRAMP work can involve a system security plan, NIST based controls, assessment, and ongoing monitoring. The applicable route determines the details. Existing security work can help, but the evidence and authorization process have their own requirements.

Build a realistic plan

Identify the gaps, the responsible parties, and the resources needed. A customer asking for similar controls may have a different need from an agency requiring an authorized service. Confirm that difference before investing in a program.
